Marcus Smart of Boston Celtiac, the league’s top defensive team, received the NBA Defensive Player of the Year award this season.
In 26 years, Smart again won this prize while playing defense.
In order to remain dominant even against inside players, Smart relies on his experience and physical strength. He also uses his good judgment and dexterous footwork to frequently directly intercept the opponent’s offense.
The only player to receive this honor three times in a row is Dwight Howard.
